Career Inventories
Now Discover your Strengths
I like doing career and personality inventories. There are three that I feel describe me and my career interests pretty well. The first one come from the book Now Discover your Strengths. I read that book and completed the inventory of my strengths while I was working at the College of Arts and Sciences at UNL. My top five results based on that were:
- Achiever – Achievers have a need to be working towards a goal and accomplishing things. This provides their drive and keeps them moving forward.
- Intellection – People who are strong on intellection like to think and are introspective.
- Input – Someone who is strong on Input likes to collect things. To me, this is kind of an odd one, but I do have several collections. My largest one is probably my collection of rabbits (I used to raise them), and I have another of magnets that I have gathered from my travels.
- Learner – A learner likes to learn. This strength is mostly about the process of learning than the content of what is learned that comes from the other themes.
- Responsibility – People who are strong on responsibility do not like unfinished projects and like to follow through on their obligations almost to a fault.

Myers Briggs Type Inventory
The second inventory that I think describes me well is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. When I take this test, my result is that I am an ISTJ, the Logistician.
- Introverted – The part of being an introvert that resonates most for me is that introverts need time alone to recharge their batteries. An introvert’s energy comes from being by themselves as opposed to extroverts who get their energy from being around other people.
- Sensing – I pay attention to information that comes in through my five senses and like to focus on things that are practical.
- Thinking – Thinkers enjoy technical things and use logic to explain things. They make decisions with their heads and try to be fair.
- Judging – A person who is strong in judging is someone who likes to have things decided and is task oriented.

Holland’s Hexagon
On Holland’s Hexagon my results are Social, Artistic, and Investigative.
- Social – Helpers who like to work with people.
- Artistic – Creators who are artistic, creative, and enjoy the creative arts.
- Investigative – Thinkers who see themselves as precise, scientific, and intellectual.
